School has officially started and it is….exciting! I did finish a lot of books this month, but I am going to blame it on starting off the school year. So here are all the books I read during August, during my last few days of summer [read as freedom].
My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem
I started this book off in July. I don’t know what it is about nonfiction books, but they also tend to take me longer to read. I really enjoyed this book. My Life on the Road is the type of book that is filled with wisdom that can only come from living a long and eventful life. The book is told more in themes than chronological, but it wasn't disorienting. The storytelling of the book reads like someone coming to conclusions and remembering things in real time. This was my first time reading a book by Gloria Steinem and I will definitely read another.
A Whole Song and Dance by Sarvenaz Tash
If you’ve been following along with my reading journey this year then you know how much I enjoy romances. This book was no exception. A Whole Song and Dance is a type of book that has the romance in the background and the main character’s struggles with freshman year of college in the foreground. Personally this prioritization of the character’s personal struggles made the story have more depth and seem more realistic. The heart of this story is about chasing your dreams and the effect that has on family. The writing was amazing, but my favorite part was the chapter titles. Each chapter title is named after a song from a musical! As a person who had a major Broadway phase during COVID and loves to sing, I found it so exciting to figure out what show the song belonged to and if anything was being foreshadowed.
