Despite summer break officially starting in June, I did not read as many books as I had anticipated. On the bright side, all the books I did read were great! Here are all the books I read in June.
Hungry Hearts: 13 Tales of Food & Love edited by Caroline Tung Richmond and Elsie Chapman
This book had thirteen different short stories, written by thirteen different authors. Each author brought a unique perspective which made for a very fun read. Now I won’t lie, I picked this book up because it had “love” in the title. I am a romcom lover at heart, and was expecting the book to be filled with cute romance stories. This was not the case. However, it was a pleasant surprise. While there were many short stories that included elements of a classic romcom, other stories had fantasy, action, and mystery elements. All the stories took place in the same town and included some element of food which created a sense of cohesion. Hungry Hearts: 13 Tales of Food & Love is a great book for the reader who wants to explore different genres!
You’re the Only One I’ve Told: The Stories Behind Abortion by Meera Shah
This book was an emotional and important read. I love non fiction books, even more so when they include unique and personal perceptives. This book was written before Roe v. Wade was overturned, and detailed the many hurdles for reproductive care (which have only gotten increasingly difficult) through different individual’s experiences. The author is a doctor whoes medical insight provided a professional point of view that helped the book to feel even more timely. This is a wonderful book that I urge everyone to read.
