The extremely hot weather, and great vacations that I had this month finally made it feel like summer! I had the opportunities to have so many summer adventures, and so many were reading books! Without further ado, here are the books I read in July!
Love Scene, Take Two by Alex Evansley
Love Scene, Take Two is a book that follows a young writer and actor that fall in love. This is a book that starts off very slow. It is not something I would necessarily reach for again; maybe it was the style of writing (not being first person); maybe it was the way the romance was written. However, something about the book told me to keep reading, and I am happy I did. The friendships between the female characters were my favorite aspect of the book.
Gwen & Art Are Not In Love by Lex Croucher
I usually don’t read books that take place in the past, but this intrigued me. This book is about a descendant of King Authur that is in an arranged marriage (but like the title suggests, they are not in love). Gwen & Art Are Not In Love had fantastic banter, I definitely laughed out loud! This book reminds me of the song “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett was turned into a historical comedy. That explanation could not make sense, but read it and you’ll see.
Sprint to the Mountaintop by Mark Tate
I have to mention that I personally know the author of this book, he is my father! I am extremely proud of him! Don’t let that fact make you think I would not be truthful about my experience. Sprint to the Mountaintop is a self help book, a genre I usually don’t read. The book has a combination of helpful advice and ways to implement it. While not being the target audience for the book I did enjoy it. The book has the vibe of a montage of a character trying to achieve a goal. (Great job dad!)
More Than Just a Pretty Face by Syed Masood
I loved this book! The character building is so good. Without giving too much away my favorite scene from the book involves a library (I am still emotional from that part, when you get to it, you will be too). I am still kicking my feet and giggling. This is the type of book to get you out of a reading slump. If I had to describe this book in three words I would say adorable, human, emotional, or to put it simply coming of age.
Black Friend: Essays by Ziwe Fumudoh
I usually fall asleep on the airplane, but while I was reading Black Friend: Essays I stayed wide awake. I laughed out loud so many times while reading this. This book felt like your best friend's face timing you, and telling you the craziest stories. This book has this black friend’s stamp of approval.
As If on Cue by Marisa Kanter
This book is about high school rivals that have to work together in order to save their school’s artistic clubs/programs. I don't know what it is about high school rivalry rom coms but they have a certain je ne sais quoi. As if on Cue, is the type of book that makes you either think this could totally happen at my school or, are these main characters pulling a Tom Holland researching for the role of spiderman, and are in their 20s? No matter which category you fall under, this is a fun read.
