October marked the beginning of spooky season. However, as a lover of happy endings (and as a scaredy cat) I did not read any horror. This October marked a new beginning for me as I applied to colleges and began to think about what I want my collegiate life to look like. Like all high school seniors, contemplating  about what university they will thrive in, and getting nightmares about receiving no college acceptances, I needed just a hint of escapism. So without further ado here are all the books I read in October.

Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

Growing up we always heard, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” For this book the saying rings true. You might think that this is going to be a light fun read about a high school student working at a carnival, but you would be wrong. While on the surface this book is funny, at its heart it tells the story everyone can relate to the fear of change. The book is about a teenage girl named Lou who tries to stop her local amusement park from closing down, and figure out her love life. Jenifier Dugan uses the right mixture of laughter and tears to tell this story.

Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey

As a certified (given to me by myself) romcom expert and lover of books I knew this was going to be right up my alley. Spoiler I was right! The book is about competing bookstores, and the romance that develops between Madline at her family’s independent bookstore and Jasper who works at a chain book store. The best part of this book is definitely the banter. Bantar is a romcom’s bread and butter, and Rodkey ate. If you’re looking for an interesting YA romance with book lovers at the forefront this is the book for you!
